The Madison Murder Mysteries – Tiny Books, Original Stories, and Author-Narrated Audiobooks

Welcome to The Madison Murder Mysteries by Author Jonathan David—a short-story mystery series set in Madison, Wisconsin, delivered through handcrafted tiny books and storytelling in the author’s own voice.

Meet the author, see the handmade books and packaging, and discover the idea behind the series. Watch directly on YouTube.

A Madison Mystery Series with a Local Point of View

I live in Madison, Wisconsin, and the city is part of my creative process. Walking through Madison with my dog, observing the surroundings, and following local news gives me ideas that I weave into fictional mysteries.

The series follows Agent Fox, a former FBI agent who becomes a professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and assists police with investigations. Each installment offers its own mystery while contributing to a larger connected story.

The first installment is Red Blood Sushi. These short stories focus on clues, curiosity, and the pleasure of following a mystery through an unexpected turn.

Handcrafted Tiny Books Made in Madison

These books are a hands-on project from beginning to end. I write the story, print the pages, cut the materials, assemble the book, and create the packaging myself.

In the video, I show the tiny-book format, matching bookmarks, and a prototype countertop display. The display is designed for potential placement in select Madison shops, making each new mystery something readers can discover locally.

The short-story books use a readable font despite their small dimensions. I also make miniature versions of full novels as novelty editions. Those contain much smaller text and are a different reading experience from the short-story format.

Signed Handmade Editions and Book Bundles

For readers who enjoy the craft behind a physical book, I discuss handmade, signed editions and bundles. Depending on the listing, these may include a miniature companion book, matching bookmark, or other accessories.

I also describe recording the making of direct-order handmade editions as a video record of their production. Because I make these individually, availability depends on the time and materials required. Check the current product listing for the exact contents, pricing, and fulfillment details.

Hear the Stories Narrated by Their Author

My audiobook project brings the writing into my own voice. I plan to share previews, video audiobooks, and conversations about the books on YouTube, with full available reading and audiobook content offered through my website’s memberships.

On my website, the listening experience is ad-free. Audiobooks are being narrated and added chapter by chapter, so available titles and completed chapters will grow as production continues.

Watch the Writing and Production Process

This channel also offers a look behind the finished book. I discuss recording my writing sessions, sharing screen recordings, and showing how a story develops through writing, editing, narration, and physical production.

In this introduction, I explain that I write the Madison mystery stories myself. I also describe using AI assistance for selected graphics, packaging prototypes, and measurements, followed by my own adjustments. Separately, I discuss earlier experiments with explicitly labeled AI-written stories and summaries of my spoken podcasts.

For readers interested in authorship and independent publishing, these recordings offer a closer view of the decisions and work involved in bringing a book to life.

Explore More Fiction by Jonathan David

Alongside the Madison short stories, I introduce books including The Killers’ Therapist and Capitol Murders – The Madison Ripper. My fiction moves across different genres, including psychological thrillers, horror, romance, and speculative stories.

Each title has its own tone and audience. The lighter mystery experience described for these tiny short stories differs from the mature material found in some of my other fiction.
